I.C.E. crackdown on Garcia Labor Company, Ohio

Here’s an encouraging New York Times story about an I.C.E. crackdown in Ohio.

Immigration agents had prepared a nasty surprise for the Garcia Labor Company, a temporary worker contractor, when they moved against it on charges of hiring illegal immigrants. They brought a 40-count federal indictment, part of a new nationwide strategy by immigration officials to clamp down on employers of illegal immigrant laborers.

Maximino Garcia, the president of the company, which provides low-wage laborers to businesses from Pennsylvania to Texas, stood before a federal judge here on Tuesday to answer conspiracy charges of aiding illegal immigrants and money laundering. If convicted, Mr. Garcia, who pleaded not guilty, could serve 20 years in jail and forfeit his headquarters building and $12 million.

The illegals are “uneasy,” as they should be.

It also created a new environment of fear in Ohio’s immigrant communities.

“It’s a very uneasy feeling,” said Sister Teresa Ann Wolf, a Roman Catholic nun who works with immigrant workers in Canton, Ohio. “People are afraid to leave the house to go to the store. They are afraid to come to church.”

Perhaps you would be more at ease in your own countries, where you can live and work legally. The words from I.C.E. seem to promise more of the same in the future.

Officials at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which was created in 2003 and is known as I.C.E., acknowledge that past efforts were lackluster.

“We found that the fines were not an effective deterrent,” said Julie L. Myers, the Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary who heads I.C.E. “Employers treated them as part of the cost of doing business.”

While the old immigration agency brought 25 criminal charges against employers in 2002, this year Immigration and Customs Enforcement has already made 445 criminal arrests of employers, officials said. Some 2,700 immigrant workers were caught up in those operations, and most were deported, the officials said.

Hiring illegal immigrants “has been a low-risk, high-reward enterprise,” said Brian M. Moskowitz, the agency’s special agent in charge for Ohio and Michigan. “We want to send the message that your cost of business just went up because you risk your livelihood, your corporate reputation and your personal freedom.”

Garcia Labor was blatant about they way the flaunted US immigration law. And it’s a good thing none of the illegals were terrorists. Or were they?

According to the indictment, in a single month, May 2003, the Social Security Administration informed Mr. Garcia that 186 of his employees who were working at ABX Air had invalid Social Security numbers. Garcia Labor continued to send laborers to ABX Air even after they answered no when asked on applications if they were eligible to work in the United States, the indictment says.

“This was a huge, gaping vulnerability,” Mr. Moskowitz said. “You had people who you really don’t know who they are having access to the underbelly of an airplane.”

And here’s the bottom line from I.C.E.

Mr. Moskowitz, the special agent, said the agency’s priority was not to deport immigrant workers, but to stop employers who built their businesses on cheap immigrant labor.

“These are not crimes of passion,” he said. “Nobody wakes up in the middle of the night and says, ‘I’m going to hire illegal aliens.’ These are people who have made a conscious decision that they can profit from this.”

Good for I.C.E. Now let’s see more of the same!

Small Town Defenders

Wouldn’t it be great if every city and town in the nation enacted laws like Mayor Barletta’s? Check out www.smalltowndefenders.com and submit the law to your own City Council for implementation.

Welcome to Small Town Defenders!

I’m Lou Barletta, the proud Mayor of the City of Hazleton, Pennsylvania.

Recently, our City has greatly suffered from a series of serious crimes and economic hardship including the murder of a city resident, the discharge of firearms at a local playground, high profile drug busts, and severe strains on our classrooms and health care system. All of these previously mentioned crimes involved illegal aliens and their large migration to our City have resulted in educational and economic strains that threaten our quality of life.

I could not sit back any longer and allow this to happen, I needed to act! That’s why I drafted the Illegal Immigration Relief Act, a measure that is designed to send a message. My message: To the residents of Hazleton, I say thank you for your support. To our recently arrived legal immigrants, I say welcome to our City. I wish you all the best and hope the United States and Hazleton can be a place where your dreams come true, just as my great grandfather’s did when he legally immigrated here. I am proud to represent you as your Mayor.

There are thousands of small towns and cities across America like Hazleton, Pennsylvania. I hope the steps we’re taking in Hazleton to defend ourselves will inspire others to become small town defenders.

Thank you for visiting Small Town Defenders! Be sure to visit our online petition page and let us know how you feel.

Caught on video – illegals try to kill Texas law enforcement officer

They are peaceful people. They just come here to work. All they want to do is earn money to support their families. That’s what the open borders folks will try to tell you if you let them. The truth is that many illegals come here to sell drugs, rape women and little girls, and kill law enforcement officers. Look at this dashcam video and watch the two illegals try to kill Trooper Steven Stone, just because Stone found an open container of alcohol and a bag of marijuana. You can read the story here. Here’s an excerpt:

At about 9 p.m. March 22, Stone was patrolling Texas Highway 31 East when he attempted to pull over the pickup for speeding. He told dispatch that the vehicle “didn’t want to stop,” but the video showed it eventually pulled over to the side of the road. Stone asked the driver, Ramos, who was wearing a long black jacket, to exit the truck and to stand behind it.

When asked if he had any weapons, Ramos said he had a knife. Ramos also told Stone that the passenger, Francisco Saucedo, was a friend of his. Ramos handed him identification.

When Ramos said he was on painkillers, Stone began looking inside Ramos’ jacket. He asked what was in his pocket and as Ramos reached for it, a bag fell to the ground. He told Stone it was “weed” and the trooper laid it on top of his car and said, “I got a bag full of drugs here.”

Stone told him to take off his jacket and he laid it on the truck. Stone told Ramos he was under arrest, and as the trooper grabbed his hands to handcuff him, the passenger door flew open. Stone yelled at the passenger to get back in the vehicle, but at that time, Ramos pulled a handgun and shot Stone, who was only a few feet away. The passenger, Saucedo, also shot at Stone.

Stone fell into a ditch and was out of sight of the camera. Ramos and Saucedo kept firing at him until their guns were empty, then got back in the truck and sped away. Meanwhile, Stone was screaming in pain and yelling for help. He crawled back to his car and radioed for assistance – “I’ve been shot.”

Stone’s breathing and speech were labored as he told a dispatcher his location. “My shoulder is killing me,” he said.

There is a long and harrowing account of the pursuit of the pickup, with the two illegals inside firing back at officers and deputies. I’m sure these two were chanting “Si se puede” as they reloaded and prepared to shoot again. Aren’t we proud to have them as guests in our country? Aren’t we happy to promote “multiculturalism” and try to embrace their unique way of life?

I think the story about this was on Fox News, but I don’t see a transcript. Trooper Stone’s statement at the end was powerful and moving. He believes that the two illegals have brought the community together and made it stronger. Next time an illegal tries to commit a crime he will face some determined opposition.

During victim impact statements, Stone said Ramos’ actions only strengthened Stone’s convictions of who he is and what he does, as well as made heroes out of a citizen and the officers. He said he didn’t know what Ramos’ intentions were and he prayed that God would forgive him.

We should definitely open our borders and allow the illegals to swarm into our country so they can commit horrific crimes like these guys did. /sarcasm

Two Guatemalans arrested after dead newborn found in trash bin

This is truly disgusting. Do you want to see more of this in the news every day? Continue to support illegal aliens. From the Associated Press:

Two Guatemalan nationals remained jailed Thursday on charges related to the discovery of a dead newborn’s body in a trash bin in this small Panhandle town.

The body was found inside a trash bag Friday evening, and a man and a woman were arrested a short time later, said David Green, district attorney for Moore County. Green said he did not know the sex of the infant.

Maria Ortiz, 24, has been charged with murder and her boyfriend, Martin Morales, 34, has been charged with abuse of a corpse, a misdemeanor. Investigators believe he placed the body in the trash bin, Green said.

The newborn’s body was taken to Lubbock for an autopsy. No preliminary cause of death has been determined, Green said. Additional charges, including capital murder, may be filed depending on autopsy results, which could take several weeks, he said.

He declined to comment Thursday on who found the body, whether Ortiz and Morales are the parents, and whether the baby was alive when placed in the trash bin.

Moore County’s public defender, Jerod Pingelton, was out of town and unavailable to comment.

Ortiz and Morales were in the Moore County Jail in Dumas without bond as immigration authorities investigate their citizenship status, Green said. He said he did not know how long the man and woman had been in the U.S.

Cactus is about 65 miles north of Amarillo.
